Minimally Invasive Lobectomy

Minimally Invasive Lobectomy Minimally invasive lobectomy is a newer technique that is used to remove certain lung tumors. It has the advantage of limiting the amount of chest wall trauma caused by a standard chest incision thereby reducing the recovery time. While it has been shown to be a safe procedure, there is no consensus yet regarding its appropriateness for lung cancer surgery because of the lack of long-term result information.

Because of its potential to reduce postoperative pain and by the same means make it easier for the patient to breathe, we have applied it for high-risk patients. Our results have been favorable compared to similar patients who had a standard operation. Presently we offer this operation to low risk patients as part of a clinical trial.
