Informed Consent

A consent is a document that describes the treatment and any known side effects. Informed consent means your physician has explained and you understand the type and number of treatments, other treatments that might be used to treat your cancer, the most common side effects and the possible complications.

By signing the consent you give your permission to the radiation oncologist and radiation staff to treat you with radiation and to perform any tests or x-rays as necessary to plan and give your treatment. Informed consent is not a contract. You may stop radiation at any time. The consent is not a guarantee. No assurances can be given that treatment will be effective for you and your cancer. Treatments are offered because the radiation oncologist feels the benefits of the treatment outweigh the side effects or complications.
