Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Gala
You Made a Difference
The Summer Celebration for Ellis Fischel has helped make the following dreams a reality:
- A confocal microscope for cancer research.
- A laser capture microscope for cancer research.
- A new cancer research area for Ellis Fischel housed within University Hospital.
The Wyatt Guest House, allowing guests, patients and their families to be together during difficult times while on treatments.
- A mobile screening van offering mammography and prostate screening throughout the state of Missouri.
In 1997, The Lodge of Four Seasons and University of Missouri Health Care entered into a partnership to advance the opportunities of cancer research and the programs of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. Through the support of the Lodge, the Ellis Fischel Gala has raised more than $867,000 to meet the needs of this vision. Additionally, between 1994 and 1996 the Lodge raised more than $100,000 for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Established in 1940 as a state facility, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center was the first cancer center west of the Mississippi. In 1990, Ellis Fischel became a partner with the University of Missouri. Then on July 9, 2004 Ellis Fischel was designated Missouri’s official state cancer institute, a distinction that recognizes Ellis’ important service to people across the state.
Ellis Fischel offers a full range of diagnostic services to assist physicians in determining the type and extent of cancer. A multi-disciplinary team works with each patient to determine the best treatment plan. A wide range of rehabilitative and counseling services are available to patients and their families. Many patients are treated with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
The cancer center offers much of its care with treatments given on an outpatient basis. Patients can then conduct follow-up visits in the outpatient clinics. Ellis Fischel also offers the most comprehensive cancer screening program in mid-Missouri.
In addition to providing advanced treatments, Ellis Fischel participates in clinic research trials through multiple national cooperative protocol groups. This research is designed to improve quality of life and prevent, treat and slow the growth of cancer.
Ellis Fischel Cancer Center’s team of physician specialists and other trained professionals work together with a common goal: to provide the latest cancer treatments and improved quality of life for thousands of people each year.
The Brown Family and the Lodge of Four Seasons dedicated staff members are proud to be in the fight to find a cure for cancer and to provide excellent patient care. We hope that you will join us as a sponsor for this year’s event.
Your reward will be complete when the cure is discovered for this terrible disease which touches so many lives each year. Thank you for helping make a difference.
As our family has personally fought cancer we would like to dedicate this evening to strengthen and encourage those who are going through the battle now.
The vision for cancer research is real.
